Lost - no connection now, why? Hey - probably a basic question, but I formatted my sister's laptop because she gave it to me and it won't connect to the internet. It's a Compaqy Presario 2519EA, I'm using the National Semiconductor DP83815 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter (there's also a firewire 1394 card on there but not using it) and my internet cable goes from the ethernet port to the router. Now when I plug the same cable in my desktop PC (instead of in the laptop) internet works fine (which is why I can post here) but in the laptop it doesn't work. In the task bar it says connected to LAN 100MB and the light at the ethernet port is on and sometimes flashes. I've installed windows XP on it (SP1).
Perhaps irrelevant but there are two devices not installed correctly, a PCI modem and a VGA compatible video controller.
ipconfig/all says:
DHCP enabled : yes
Autom. configuration enabled: yes
Autoconfiguration IP-address: 169.254.138.45
Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
ipconfig/renew says:
There has been an error renewing this interface: Lan-connection. Cannot establisch connection with the DHCP-server. Request is overdue. (this is all not exact wordings because I translated it from Dutch :). )
I really don't know what to do :/ |
