My Nintendo DS connects to the internet via wi-fi USB connecter ONLY if I disable Mcafee firewall (same happens with Windows firewall).

I believe I need to open a ports(s) via the firewall/system settings option but I don't know how to do it!

Can anyone help by posting idiot proof instructions!?

Can anyone confirm the following points?-

Adjusting my Siemans router to WEP from WPA would have been a bad idea? (The reason I bought the Nintendo USB as DS consoles are WEP only)

If I leave Mcafee firewall off, will router firewall offer any protection?

Many thanks

I hate McAfee.

You basically need to tell the firewall to trust the Nintendo DS network as well, and allow it to pass the connections through. You will have to have a look in the McAfee settings, but it will be chronic trying to figure it out.

However, I would still raise the issue, that basically all the DS adaptor is is a software based access point. Technically anything can connect to it, which means that while your computer is turned on, your network is back to WEP security.

So, the benefits of running WPA are completely nullified when your computer is on.

Thanks serverguy.

If I disable firewall and connect to the internet with DS via USB, I assume I risk picking up a virus, malware etc?

Will I get any protection from router firewall, Mcafee or Spysweeper in the above situation?
