Default modem ports?

I have a Ps3 and can only go online with it when it is plugged into the PC itself, and the Pc has to be on. I bought a router to try and resolve this, however it says the modem needs to be pugged into both the internet and the router. the modem has only one adsl port so I am unsure whether I need to get a new modem with two adsl ports, or get something that splits one port into two. Thanks in advance.

You would unplug the patch cable that is hooked up to the computer (from the DSL modem) and plug this into the WAN port of the router. Then you need to plug in patch cables from the router (LAN ports) to each device (PC, PS3, etc).
