Hi folks.
looking for a little advice, motorola sb4200 cable modem connected to a netgear wgt 624 wireless router.
ISP was blueyonder and is now virgin media.
can anybody give me the configuration details please.
desktop pc connected to the modem via usb works fine, the problem is connecting the netgear wgt 624 wireless router to the modem via the ethernet port , the router can not detect an internet connection and therefore have no internet access via the router.
thanks people.

Hi Dave.
Yes i got a cd with the router.
getting the laptops to connect to the router is not a problem.
getting the modem to connect to the router is giving me a headache.
192.168.100.1 is the address for the modem config pages, 192.168.1.1 is the config pages for the router, everything is set to auto detect.
any idea's
thanks

I'm on cable and the modem is not configurable.

The only IP you need is the one for the router, put that in your web browser and follow the instructions on your CD.

disconnected desktop pc from modem after re-setting modem to factory default. Then re-booted the modem, after the modem had re-booted connected the ethernet cable from the modem to the router, then powered up the router. set all IP config options to auto detect within the router's config page and re-booted the router.
we now had a wireless connection to the internet.
then encounted yet another problem, this was down to norton internet security, which i rapidly uninstalled on both laptops and the second problem was solved, both laptops connected everytime.
i am still left with one problem, having got the wireless network setup for the laptops, the desktop has to connect to the router via a LAN port, because you can not use both ethernet and usb outputs on the modem, the lan connection is very slow, takes the best part of 3 mins to load a page.

Could you tell me if the Motorola Cable Modem is powered via the USB via the pc or has its own psu?

I am trying to support somebody with possibly the same modem and they also want to plug in a netgear wireless router and they say the lights go off when the pc is off on the modem...so I would not be able to reset the modem as you say you do when you say "disconnect the desktop pc from modem after re-setting modem to factory default. Then re-booted the modem,"

Thanks.
