can you find out which modem it is
Yes it does and I've done some more reasearch.

I'm trying to connect their Linksys WRT54GC cable router to a Motorola Surfboard SB5100 which is now powered by the PSU it comes with.

I set the linksys to DHCP mode in the internet settings after being told by the broadband provider but this dosnt seem to have helped.

I fixed it!

Turned off both router/modem, attatched just the modem to the laptop via ethernet cable abd turned it on to check it was giving out an IP which it was.

So I turned it back off, attatch it to the linksys router (plugged it in to the internet port on the linksys) then turned on the modem, then the router ( it could have been the other way round though) and then it just worked (obviously I left the linksys on DHCP mode).

Thanks.

Re-starting modems and/or routers sorts 99% of these problems.

Thanks for letting us know.

Glad it's fixed.
