Hey,
My ethernet connection's link speed is 10MBps, annoying thing is it's connected to my Xbox, and I only just realised it's that speed.
So I've spent hours trawling through settings, configuring things like a DMZ etc.
When all the time it was actually being limited by the connection..

Or can I chage the speed in any way? (I noticed from a quick search on Amazon that a D-Link "fast" ethernet pci was rated 10/100, does this mean you can set it between 10 and 100?)

That's usually plenty fast but you can pick up an Intel gigabit NIC for pretty cheap. Not sure how the adapter on the Xbox is, you may be maxing it out already.

Not to put words in Fordy's mouth Carbon, But I think he was asking (as well) if, with a 10/100 card, you can set the speed from 10 to 100 or if it just takes whatever speed your connection is between 10 and 100. LOl If that's not what he was asking, then i am. (no thread hijack intended Ollie).

No worries Bubba, that's exactly the kinda thing I need to do.
![]() I don't think 10MBps could be the max for it that sounds a bit too low to me? And it's the only reason i can think of for the lag I get playing stuff like COD4. Also all my mates that run their X360 from ethernet on PC experience the same lag I do, and those with the overpriced wireless adaptor, don't. So the way I see it that's more than coincidence..

And no, 1.25mb/s is pretty fast, especially because wireless in practice tends to hit about that same speed too. Might as well pick up a 10/100 for cheap, looks like the 360 has one so it should be able to do 100mbps.

Thanks Carbon, but I googled my mobo and it seems that the onboard is a 10/100/1000 anyway, so maybe it will be better than my old pc anyway. (I havn't actually tried the Xbox on it yet..)
Thanks.

what are you connected to? aka is the device your connected to capable of running at 100mbps rather than 10? i believe im right in saying that the adapter switches to the highest possible speed.

First off 10Mbs is way enough to run the Xbox on the net. You could do fine with 2mbps.
I am pretty sure that the Xbox was at least 10/100 in fact I am certain of that. If you have a switch on the network, and three network cards, two at 100Mbps and one at 10Mbps, the two 100Mbps ones will talk at full speed, but when talking to the 10Mbps device, then the network will slow to a crawl. If you have an old hub (unlikely) then everything will be forced to run at 10Mbps. I had a problem a while ago where the network would run no faster than 10Mbps, and it turned at the £3.00 switch was packing up, and would not allow anything to run faster than 10Mbps. This is well worth checking. Have you checked what speed the network adaptor in the PC is set to - should be 10/100/1000 Auto Negotiation. Also your original questions is seriously confusing. TBH I have no idea what you are asking?
