Hi,
My first time in posting but have read lots of posts relating to connection problems. I recently purchased a laptop computer with Wifi installed and have a Wireless Netcomm NB5580W router of which I am unable to connect to. I get a screen come up asking for security key and put this in & then no further then Acquiring network address. I have gone into properties of internet protocol and put the IP address of 192.168.1.3 Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 & default gateway IP address 192.168.1.1 and was able to connect to the router but not to the internet. What the hell am I doing wrong? Any suggestions Please Greg |

When you say you put the IP addresses in, was this all manually? If so, did you put in any DNS server?

OK, that will be why you can't get on the internet, DNS (Dynamic Name Service) servers are required to tell the computer where to go for the web page. try Googleing for free DNS servers and put one of those addresses in, see if that works.

thingie2,
I went online and got DNS server adresses and put these in but still unable to connect. Not only that, I now am unable to reconnect to the modem as before. I have reset everything and starting from scratch as may have changed the wrong setting along the way somewhere. Is there any thing else I can try. I disabled firewall just in case this could have been the problem. |

Many thanks for your help. I have it working now.
The problem was in the modem itself, after resetting to default and starting again everything worked. Greg |
