Hello.

I have a HP laptop with Windows Vista and a Netgear wireless internet router (which is connected to this desktop computer running XP).

My laptop was recieving internet just fine until a few days ago when, even though it's saying it's connected to Netgear, I cannot connect to any webpages with IE or Firefox.
Also, programs like MSN Messenger won't work either.

I've used both Avast! and AVG to scan my computer and they both found no viruses. I also did a System Restore back to a date I remembered my internet working fine. Still no progress.

I took my laptop to school with me yesterday, and it was able to connect to the school's wireless just fine (and Firefox/IE both worked).

Is it possible my router has a virus?

A few things I noticed (don't know if it has anything to do with the problems my computer is having) was, when I started having these problems, some routers that I've never seen before were appearing bellow Netgear under the 'Connect to a Wireless Network' on my laptop. Two of them that I can remember are:

Connex
ACTIONTEC

both of which I'd never seen before until I started having problems. Sometimes, Netgear wouldn't even show up even though it was on and running. No one else close to us has wireless, so I have no idea why these are appearing.

Please, if you know what could be wrong or have any solutions, let me know.

Thank you.

eeerm reset your router (unplug it and plug it back in after 1 min) and also go into the router via your desktop pc
if you dont know how go to
your web browser
go to
192.168.0.1
then go to wireless settings , and look for somewhere where it says allow list or acces list and make sure your mac adress is on the list
to find your mac adress go to start menu, run , then type cmd this will open command promt .... type in ipconfig/all and scroll to mac adress
:)
