hi, i have connected my virgin media cable modem and 2 computers to my router. when one computer is connected to the router the internet works fine but with 2 computers pluged in one will recive internet access but the other wont, however the network is functional and file sharing works. Also if i turn on the router with both computers and the modem pluged in neither can obtain an ip but they can obtain ips if i plug them in one at a time.

i have tried every start up sequence i can think of and i have tried manually setting the ip but that dosent work either.

any suggestions will be appreicated.

Have you tried updating the firmware on the router ?

If you are running Vista, this sometimes sorts things out.

Also consider updating the NIC drivers, as Vista does have compatibility issues with Network hardware.

Are you sure you are using a router and not an ethernet hub?

You will need to buy a router, the sort you will need depends on how you connect to the internet, if you are on cable you will need a cable router and if you connect through your phone line you will need an adsl modem/router
