Hi,
My phone line went dead. I'm not sure what happened, but it died. I tried plugging in only the phone line (no filter from the internet modem) and it still didn't work. Internet still works though. Found another filter, but it still doesn't work. No power outage or anything, it just died for some reason. Anyone know how this could be?
Thanks.

BTW, internet seems to playing up now. It works for a few minutes, then it doesn't, then magically works again, without doing anything. My MSN keeps on logging in and out, it's pretty weird.

Sounds like a problem with the phone line, if it's just the phone that doesn't work it sounds like a subscription issue. Try calling your phone provider (on a mobile obviously as you don't have a land line ) and ask them what the problem is.

Wait, phone provider or line provider? I am with Telstra for phone, but I think the lines are Optus. Only our mobiles are with Optus, and they don't require any landlines. Should it be Optus or Telstra? And I've had similar problem before, but we changed filter to a new one and it worked. Could it be a new filter could work? Because the one I tried this time was an old one I found in a drawer.

ask your phone line provider to test the connection if they says its fine find the main phone box, itll have to screws and a removable bottom on it, remove the bottom and plug it directly into the phone line rather than the junction

its easy to do mate so dont worry

its the one on the right your looking for, has a seal across the face, remove the screws and it pulls off then, plug everything back in, could be a corroded wire on the junction. happened to me yesterday

Well, I don't have one of those... The main plug thing just has 2 phone line sockets. The top one is the one we usually use, the bottom one doesn't work for anything. It's the only plug available for modem, because we had intermittent connections before and they said the modem to wall must be 3 metres or less.

Wall > Filter > Phone lines and modem

Called them and they said that it could be a filter problem, so they told us to get a new one, but if it still doesn't work, they would send someone over... Guess I have to wait until tomorrow, shops are closed here now.

Okay, got a new filter, and it still doesn't work. The phone company said they will get someone to fix it on Monday. Some time to wait. Thanks for the help anyways.
