Default Not getting most of my wireless N

well, i heard all the buzz about wireless N, how it transfers faster, ad have a longer range. So, i bought my dell laptop equiped with intel 4965agn draft n adapter.

also, i bought the D-Link DIR-625 C1 which supposedly supports N.

the problem is that my avg wireless download is 200kbps, though when its wired, goes up to 700kbps.

at the same time, when i setted up my router to only allow wireless N, my laptop was unable to connect. i suspect tat the setting is still at G, and cannot figure out how to correct it. On the settng for the intel adapter, it has the following sub categories under Adavnced:

802.11n Channel Width
802.11n Mode
Ad Hoc Channel 802.11 b/g
Ad Hoc Power Managemet
Ad Hoc QoS Mode
Fat Channel Intolerant
Mixed Mode protection
Roaming Aggressiveness
Throughput Enhancement
Trasmit Power
Wireless Mode

under wireless mode, i'm only shown the options of:

802.11a
802.11b
802.11g
802.11b/g
802.11a/b
802.11a/b/g

so im wondering how could i maximize my wireless productivity, and get the actual 802.11n networking. thanks in advance.

You've been mixing 802.11n Draft 1.0 chipsets. Until they iron out the spec there's no interoperability. Intel say that. D-Link say that. http://www.intel.com/network/connect...n/overview.htm has a weasel-footnote that almost gloats about it. http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=2836 is a good discussion too.

Like the farmer said, you can't get there from here. If you want to get to there you should start somewhere different.

Have you checked to see if there is a firmware upgrade for the D-Link DIR-625 C1 and any new drivers for the Intel Adaptor ?

Default Not getting most of my wireless N

i've checked windows update, and there is an update for my intel driver. however, this happens every time i try to install it:

download finishes, set up starts, initiate windows recovery

after recovery, nothing happens, the program does not install.

my internet will be busted, and i have to use system recovery to get it back.

so i guess i dont have the latest, but looks like i cant get it either. this is the ONLY update im having problem with.

According to D-Link's website, it looks like you have the latest firmware rev.c1 for the Router

To check for updated driver for the Intel 4965 Adaptor, try looking on Dell's website or post back with Model no. of the Laptop.

Default Not getting most of my wireless N

thanks, now ive got the latest firmware for both router and adapter.

the firmware for the router was installed smoothly, though for the wireless adapter i had to go intel's site, since dell's version wasn't the latest, and windows update wouldnt work.

hopefully it'll be faster now, thanks.
