WPA cracking can be done by capturing a primary handshake on the network. This can be done in seconds and the cracker can then be way away from the site. All he needs to do is force a disconnection of one client and capture its re-authentication and he is in!

Yes, WEP uses a 3 byte pre-shared key and the cracker just collects enough packets to make the cracking easier.

cheers for the help though guys, where i live i dont think i need to worry so much about people cracking my wireless connection, pembrokeshire is a old community so most people just dont care about such matters
