| For surfing etc., however, you probably wouldn't notice too much of a difference. My System: Home Build

| With just two computers I very much doubt you will notice any difference to when you only had one computer connected. You are only using the bandwidth (1mbps) when you are actually downloading a page or streaming media etc. For all the rest of the time when you are just reading or typing etc you are not using any of your available bandwidth. So, you will only notice a slow down if both of the computers request something over the internet at the same time, like both computers going to new websites at the same time. Then they would be sharing the connection until one computer finishes and then the full bandwidth would go to the other computer again. As philthomas said, you might notice a slowdown on download speeds if two computers were downloading things at the same time, like Anti Virus Updates etc. Most routers have some form of traffic shaping however. This means that priorities are set for different types of traffic. For example, the most priority would go to normal internet browsing. If you were downloading a torrent or similar, and the other computer asked for a webpage, then the computer asking for the webpage would temporarily get priority and the download would slow down. This is a feature that is built into a lot of routers and often enabled without one even knowing about it. So overall, you will not really notice a slowdown with two computers using the same connection except if both computers were downloading big files. Some routers are even cleverer, and save pages people download locally, so if someone else on the network requests the same page, it is available instantly.
