Default Printer

I have our family pc upstairs with the printer and downstairs i use my laptop wirelessly. Is it possible to be able to print something on the printer that is upstairs from my laptop that is downstairs? Is it an easy straight forward process thats not too complicated? I don't ...

You would have to set up a Home Network (so the computers can connect with each other not just share the internet connection), and set the printer up for printer sharing, XP should do this for you in the network set up wizard.

You can also buy a wireless printer hub so the main PC doesn't need to be switched on.

On the computer that is connected to your printer -
Click Start and then click Control Panel Click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Printers and Faxes in the Printers and Faxes folder click Share This Printer, open the printer's Properties dialog box, and clicked on the Sharing tabclick Share Name, and then clicked OK. To connect to the printer - open Control Panel, and clicked Printers and Other Hardware click Add a Printer click Printer Connection and then browsed the network for the printer and thats it

The network needs to be set up first, if you can't access the main PC, you can't access the printer.

As tinkerbell will be using a Network of course it will that is explained in the link "first line" provided by philthomas

But setting up a shared internet connection, doesn't automatically set up a home network (where the PC's can see and connect to each other).
