This link is very helpful as is all the other advice from members here, just read through and i am thinking the second set of instructions "connect to a shared printer" does that need to be done on pc upstairs or on laptop? Am i making sense to you? The first set is on pc up and second is on laptop?

Yes your logic is correct ... Set 1 for the PC and Set 2 for the Laptop.

There shouldn't be any problem with the Laptop being Vista, but it has been known for Vista to be more finicky sometimes .... just try it and see ;)
