I am planning on buying a laptop but my house does not have any sort of wireless internet at the moment. Instead of having to buy an expensive router, is it not possible to just plug a Wifi usb stick into my PC and use that to get the internet on a wireless enabled laptop?
    Help much appreciated.

I don`t think you can, cause you need the router to give out the signal and the usb to recieve it or the internal wireless in the laptop to recieve it.

So, the ONLY way to set up wireless in my house is with a wireless router?

You can get a wired router as well, obviously. Or you can use a spare PC as a router, believe it or not.
"I loved the P182 so much that, when my wife's system was all noisy and needed all sorts of cleaning, I bought her one. Then, when I wanted a cat, I bought a P182. The P182 is not a cat per se, but it's still an excellent buy."
