Hi, according to the instructions it shouldn't require any setup, should just be able to plug in and connect. Well Ive plugged the ethernet cable in to the bridge and the computer and I get nothing? Nothing pops up and I cant connect to anything. So I tried putting the CD that came with it in and it searches for the bridge, and it says "No available wireless ethernet bridge have been found." Ive tried two different cables which did not help

Any ideas of what I should try next?

Thanks.

Can you make a diagram of how your network is set out, and what you are using the wireless bridge for.

I have a computer downstairs which a belkin router is connected to, I am using a laptop upstairs and the signal isn't great so I'm trying to use the bridge instead of the laptops built in wireless to connect to the router to see if it improves the signal. Hope that makes sense!

When you plug the bridge into the laptop, can you connect to it via a web browser through it's default IP address. This should be listed in the manual somewhere.

Are you plugging it straight into your computer, with nothing between them, and making sure you computer has a static IP set on the same subnet as the bridge?

Yes its plugged straight into the laptop, sorry to be a pain but could you explain what you mean by "static IP set on the same subnet".

Thanks

This is your problem then I expect.

When I say a static IP address on the same subnet, I mean that there is going to be no way for your computer to get an IP address automatically, because there is no DHCP server available (i.e. your router).

So if the default IP address of the bridge is 192.168.1.10, set your computer to 192.168.1.11

If it was 192.168.2.10 set your computer to 192.168.2.11

For the subnet mask just give it 255.255.255.0

Don't worry about a default gateway at this stage. Just lets get connected to the bridge first.

Setting Windows XP to a Static IP Address

1. Click START then Control Panel

2. Click Network and Internet Connections

3. Click Network Connections

4. Double Click on your wireless connection.

5. Click on Properties

6. Scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the window and double click on it.

7. Set Use the following IP address and Use the following DNS server.

8. For the IP address set the IP address to 192.168.1.55

9. Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0

10. Default Gateway to 192.168.1.254

11. First DNS server to 192.168.1.254 and leave the second one blank.

12. Click OK, OK, and then shut down open windows.

I did what you said and It still wont connect to the bridge using its default ip I also tried 192.168.2.55 and 192.168.2.254 instead of 192.168.1.55 and 192.168.1.254. The Ip address for the router is 192.168.2.1 and the bridge is 192.168.2.225. Also when I applied those settings It wouldnt load any web pages? Not sure if thats supposed to happen or not!

Any other ideas?
