I bought a netbook Asus 701 to use for connecting to the internet at work through wifi hotspot but apparently it it is not compatible cos I can't sign on. I was given a password but it wouldnt work which I'm told means that its not compatible. Why is this and would an Acer one be compatible? What is it that makes it not compatible? The fact that its a netbook and not a proper laptop?
Thanks. |

Well I conected to the wireless network and got to the login stage. The receptionist gave me a user name and password and when I entered it it just kept saying incorrect login. I then got a new login from the reception and tried again but still the same message. The whole time my wireless connection is saying that I'm connected. So I call the reception and tell them and they say that maybe my laptop is incompatible. I have now bought an acer netbook but I havent tried it at work yet.

login stage??
i guess your network has a domain you have to logon to, 'cos you dont need a user name and password for wifi (you need a password for the security if the wifi network has one obviously). from a quick google, it seems your netbook is running on linux, which might be whats causing the problems. but if youve bought a new netbook i guess its not really a issue anymore.
