Problems with my Router and DSL Modem

I keep having this recurring problem that is very annoying. I have 2 computers, both using Windows XP, connected to a Linksys BEFSR41 V.4 Router w/ 4-port switch, which is connected to the DSL Siemens Speedstream 4100.

I was using Utorrent on occasion until it stopped working and the little connection indicator at the bottom center of the screen on Utorrent was a yellow triangle with an exclamation point. Hovering the mouse over it, indicates there is a problem with my network.

After I investigated I tried to use port-forwarding with a static IP address, following the procedures from this website:
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...5/Utorrent.htm
This worked for a little while, until my connection stopped working all together. Its like my router begins to block all connections to the modem. Its really annoying and I have to reset each computer back to default settings to get a connection to work again. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I'm doing wrong or why the router seems to be hanging up? Thanks
