Forgive the noobness of this question--my overall knowledge of computers is fair, but in the realm of networking, its basically nonexistent.

I want to setup a remote desktop, but both computers have XP home, and the built-in remote desktop is only part of xp pro. I've heard of things like GoToMyPC, but I am just looking for a user opinion about the easiest reliable and legal way to remotely access a PC.

Thanks,
Ulfrinn

Hi

I would try UltraVNC, works great for XP. www.uvnc.com

Is it from compter to compter you want to do it, or do you want to be able to access your computer over the internet?

I hope this helps

Many Thanks

Leo

That looks like it'll do the job. Thanks! What i needed it for was accessing my home desktop at work. So i assume that means over the internet, but again i know nothing about networks.

Hi

Yes will do the job. The only thing you need to sort out is that most internet service providers give you dynamic IP addresses. This means that the number you would type in at work to connect to your home will change regularly.
If you do have a dynamic ip address, you may need to setup what is called dynamic dns, which keeps track of what your IP address is all the time.

I hope this helps, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you need anymore information or would like any help setting it up.

Many Thanks

Leo
