Default Router Connection Trouble

Hello, I have a really painful problem regarding routers. I have run my two pcs just fine for a long while now, one is an xp and other is vista, using this one router. "a netgear something or other". and one morning I woke up and niether pc's would connect. I can plug directly into my Cable modem and internet works fine. I know it isn't my router because i took it to a friends and it works fine for him, and visa versa used his and it didn't work for me when working fine for him just minutes before.. I am getting a Local setting on my connectivity under the ipv 4 and i have read that the ipv 6 doesn't really matter but it says local also or limited. I have read many threads and no one seems to have the exact same issure reguarding two pc,s. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need any more info i would be more than happy to comply but i honestly don't know what all i would tell you.

Have you installed any new software, such as Firewall or AntiVirus programs, on your PCs ?
