Unhappy router Ip and DNS addresses - F'@£$ing crap

Hello,
not sure if this is the right section or whether anyone can help, but I've wasted a good 10-15 hours over the past month or two trying to sort it out, can't afford to hire a computer geek at the mo, so it's worth a shot.

I'm trying to set up a Netgear router through my flatmates modem. She's with Virgin, and when I hook it all up hers still works.
I've tried everything I can through Netgears routerlogin (192.168.0.1), rang them to be given less than useless info, and have tried every IP address and DNS numbers any of the computers have come up with. The router's from my other flatmates old house and doesn't have a setup CD or manual. If I get internet protocol to automatically find IP and DNS addresses then it never finds them and doesn't connect at all, and if I put in static ones the computers say they're connected but give your 'Internet Explorer cannot find webpage' bit. Im not sure which computers meant to have which IP and DNS numbers, butam getting fed up with having to raid my flatmates room to look at my emails.
Can anyone help/anysuggestions?

This is my flatmates ipconfig - if I do the same with mine then I either get whatever Ive put in under the static IP and DNS', in which case it connects but doesn't find a dns that connects to webpage; or I try and get it to automatically find IPs and DNS' and my ipconfig gives (and this is just the main things written by hand as couldn't find a disk to move from my computer to this):

Sitecom Wireless Network USB Adapter

Physical Address: 00-0C-F6-28-68-E2
Automatic Config IP Address: 169.254.112.212
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway: blank
DNS server:192.168.0.1

in which case it has good signal but goes to limited or no connection

try this please

IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS

then:

NETSH INT IP RESET RESET.LOG

and reboot.
The first line clears your DNS cache. The second line resets your TCP/IP stack.
