Default Router IP install problems

Ok, here's there deal. I have a belkin router. I set it up so that I could be wireless on my laptop whilst the family still used the home computer. It worked fine. Then the home computer was really messed up so it got formatted and the guy who did it messed up the installation of the internet. The internet was on and off working. I rang up my ISP and they said that it's settings were all messed up and it didn't have an IP address and when it did connect it said "limited or no connectivity" and on the whole was just messed up.

Anyway, I tried re-installing my router and although I selected "Dynamic IP" at the start of the install, it would get to a point where it asked me to input static IP details and it just wouldn't me connect or install it thanks to the modem being all messed up. Anyway the modem has since been fixed and everything is fine but when I try and install my router it still does the same thing and asks for static IP details. I took my router to a frieneds house and tried to establish a connection there and his connection has been fine for years. Anyway it once again asking for static IP details. So I'm guessing that it's router that is now the problem.

Does anyone have a clue?

Thanks.

Default Router IP install problems

OK .... to start off ... who is your ISP ? .... and what is the model of the Wireless Router ?

Also have a look at the manual for the Router and look for a reset button, this will reset the unit back to factory settings and allow you to start afresh.

There really isn't much to installing a router, but it will depend on who your ISP is.

The model, I think, was one of these F5D7230-4 or F5D7230-4v7.01. My ISP is Virgin Media.

I don't have the router here with me but I'm going home midweek so I will have a look then. to see if it has a reset button.
