Default Router knocking out NTL Connection

Hi all,
I have a laptop which s connected to my Farthers desktop via a Belkin g+ router. Ive tried dynamic and satic and they seem ok but the last few weeks its been playing up with the desktop connection causing my father to disconnect my router, then his connection is ok.Im thinking of getting a seperate broadband connection fitted, but wondered if this is pretty common to conflict with a nother connection.
Thanks for any help.
Vinnie.

Hi

You shouldn't really have a problem with that setup. It sounds like you may possibly have an IP adress conflict if you have been assigning static IP addresses.
Would you be able to give us the IP addresses of both the computers, along with the subnet mask and default gateway?

I hope this helps, and if you need anymore information or help please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Many Thanks

Leo

Not enough information given on your setup, to give you any specific advice, but you shouldn't need a seperate broadband connection .... you should be able to share your father's broadband via a Router.

When you say your Laptop is "connected to your Farthers desktop via a Belkin g+ router", what exactly do you mean ? ..... i.e. are you connecting wirelessly or with Ethernet cable to the Router (not the Desktop) or ? ... are you using a Network to transfer files or just sharing the Internet connection ?

Is this a NTL Cable or ADSL connection ? .... if Cable, it will be a dynamic IP.
