Heyy,

As the title says, I've run out of Ethernet ports on my cable router, can I just simply add a switch onto one of the sockets? If so, what type? A look on Ebuyer shows Smart, Managed or Un-managed.....

Cheers, MCTW

EDIT - Router is a Netgear WGT624 v3

Hi mate bascially if you have run out of ports one soultion it to attach a Fast Ethernet Switch which plugs into your modem adn gives you 4 extra ports however i think you can get Fast Ethernet Switch which have more that 4 ports if you need them. Hope This Helps :)

An unmanaged switch has no way for you to configure it.

A managed switch has a full in depth set of options, and a smart/intelligent switch is somewhere inbetween.

I'd suggest unmanaged with as many ports as you feel you need (plus a few more for further expansion)
