Hello I have had a wired router for nearly 5 years, then all of a sudden (nearly 2 weeks ago) it stops working. The web pages would just be loading for ages, then will say "could not connect" (or whatever it is). But the thing is, it can still manage to load web pages sometimes, if you're just lucky, or are repeatedly refreshing them. So I figured it had nothing to do with us being not connected. And also, we have our phones connected through the same line, and they work. I have tried many different ways to fix it, like using a new connection cord, turning it on and off, restarting the computer. And nothing different happens. So I rang our internet company (a thousand times by now...) and they say the same thing I've already done everytime I ring (turn it off for 20 seconds blah blah), but then finally they sent someone out with a new modem. That person came, installed the new modem, and it didn't make a difference. It seemed to have worked for the first 5 minutes, so he left, but then it stopped, and is the same. That was no help... So I have still been ringing them and then they say "more people have rang than usual, so it might be something to do with us" (all those 'so many people' have probably just been me), but then a while later they say there is a problem with their connection and it should be fixed by tomorrow. And then comes tommorrow, when it's 'fixed'... it didn't make a difference. So I have absolutely no idea what the problem is, I don't expect anyone here to know after reading this, but it's all I have left...

Maybe, but why all of a sudden? And I forgot to say... We have 3 computers all connected to it, and they all don't work. And also... we have a wireless broadband which I'm using now on the same computer. So that's why I think it has nothing to do with the computers...

Your problem is more than likely with your router. Five years is a while for a residential router, and they do tend to start to fail after a while. I've had 3-4 go out on me for no apparent reason after a few years. I'd say buy a new router, plug it in, and see if that fixes it. Which it more than likely will. If not, you can always take it back. An easy way to figure this out would be to take a pc and plug it directly into the cable/dsl modem, to see if that one computer can connect with no problem. If so, then you know the issue is with the router.
