im setting up my friends adsl router basically i got it all work in tip top shape until a few days ago were he couldnt go on the internet no more, so i popped round yesterday evening and i have got no idea atall whats wrong with it, basically the network icon in the system tray reads limited or no connectivity and displayed the explanation mark, so what ive tried to do is uninstall the network card and let windows reinstall it next time windows starts up, also ive tried to let windows repair it but it cant do it, and thast about all ive done. i cant even log on the router configuration settings through the browser, i dont even no why it doesnt do it because its connected to the pc via the patch cable. please any help would be very appreciated, thanks

Have you rebooted the router?

Use manual IP settings for the router, then you will be able to connect to it to reprogram it as resetting it wipes all settings.

ive tried to do that but i dont think its working it takes a hell of a lot of time loading the router apge, but i dont know wether im doing it right?

What is the make/model of the router ? and what IP addy/username/password are you trying to access it with ?

its a belkin router its IP is 192.168.2.1, i dont know the username and password of by hart but do you mean the usdrname and password for them to connect to the internet or there computer username and password

OK ... if you have Reset the Router, then as Dave said, it needs reconfiguring.

If you cannot log in to the Router, with the patch cable connected, using 192.168.2.1 via your browser, then it sounds like the Router may be faulty.
How far do you get ? ... i.e. do you see the log in screen for the Router, which prompts for username & password ?

no i cant even get that far when i open a internet browser ie IE or firefox it comes up with the usual error page
