| Hi, The last 5 days I keep getting a "Server not found" message every 5-10 click on both Mozilla and IE. The internet still "works" but it is slow and like I said this message comes up quite frequently. This comp that gets the message is connected via wireless. The computer that is connected to the modem does not get this message though. Please help asap, this is very annoying. I am on vista. Thanks |

| You have one "computer that is connected to the modem", and a second computer connected to the first computer by wireless, and the second computer has the problem? Have I read that right?

| Sorry if that didn't make sense, I was writting it quickly before lunch was over at work. What I mean is one main computer is connected to the router/modem and that computer has no problems. I am connected to the internet wirelessly from the router that is on the main computer. Hoep that makes sense. |

| Have you checked the signal level on the wirelessed computer? Your symptoms are what you'd expect if you have a very low grade wireless connection to the wireless router. Usually there's an indicator in the system tray showing your connection quality.

| My signal strength is excellent and I have scanned for virus', reinstalled my wireless adapter, and resetted my wireless router. Usually I can figure something like this out but this time I can't, really odd. |

| We can narrow down where the glitch is. The ISP is fine because computer#1 sees no problem. The router is okay, the dhcp and the dns are all okay or you'd never see anything. The signal strength's fine so I think we can assume there's no glitch on the connection (though there would be if you'd corrupted your advanced packet settings, not an easy thing to have done). Your response is slow and some of it times out. You've scanned and checked your AV and adware is clean. I think that leaves high on the list of suspects a process locked on 100% processor usage and you don't know it's there.

The place to go searching for it is the performance monitor. I've never seen Vista but I'm sure you'll be able to find it if you look and google a bit. Ctrl-Alt-Del to the Task Manager and click the Performance Monitor tab. If you can see a process taking all your CPU them take its name, kill it and see if things clear up. My System: Tim

| Yeah I checked that out but no culprit in the process that is eating away at the cpu and its percentage. |

| Here is an update, I connected another computer to my wireless and that had no problems what so ever. So what ever it is it has to due with my computer solely. Last edited by needhelp : 15-04-2008 at 05:21 AM. |

| There's a way to check whether it's a software or a hardware component that's screwed and that's to run completely different software for ten minutes and see if it gets through cleanly. If it does then you're chasing the problem through your configuration and drivers, if it doesn't then you're replacing your wireless hardware.

The way to do it is to boot from a Live CD which will make no changes at all to your hard drive contents. It will come up recognizing you have wireless internet and it ought to prompt you through "which SSID network shall we ask to use" "what's the key". After that you can browse a few pages and decide yes or no, it's the hardware or it isn't. My choice of live CD would be knoppix or Mint My System: Tim

| That can be interpreted two ways. If it means "I connected a wireless-capable computer to my wireless router's network and it got on fine" then you've confirmed your wireless router's fine. If it means "I put my wireless card into another computer and it performed with no problem" then it's a different test which (see my last post) already confirms your hardware's fault-free. Which did you do?

| I'll try that Live CD thing when I get home. The last point about the wireless brings up a great point, I had used a different wireless device on the other computer. When I get home I'll put my wirelesss adapter on that comp and see if that is the problem. Unfortunately I can't use the others card on mine since it is a laptop card but this is a good thing to try, glad you brought it up. |

| Definitely not a hardware problem, installed my wireless adapter to the other computer and no problems what so ever so I guess it has to do with something with my computer itself. |
