Hello, Im planning on setting up a home network. eg loging on and having your own space on the server. here what i have so for

2 Desktop Computer with windows XP
1 Laptop with windows xp also
1 Laptop what i intend to use as a server
1 netgear router

What software is the best to use for a server or is it even possible?

I wanted to use Novel but not sure what i need or is it possible? and ideas?

For centralized file storage, your best bet is windows home server. You cant 'log on' like you like you do in corporate networks, but you can set up users on the server that are linked to users on the PCs/Laptops, which can have different access rights and secure file storage areas.

You need at least 80gb on the machine thats going to be the server, and the server has to be WIRED to the router, wireless is not supported (trust me, i tried!)

Using a Linux based OS (assuming you're more familiar to Windows) is going to increase the learning curve somewhat imo.
