Okay, i purchased a Switch so that i can run a lan party of 8 people including my self. I need help on making sure the computers actually connect via the switch and not through my wireless so here is my problem.
I bought this switch http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833166007 And i'm trying to set it up with several computers independent of internet so that we can lan over a couple of games. While testing this switch with my laptop, i was not able to connect via the switch, but instead connected via the wireless in my house. Can anyone tell me how i am to go about making sure that the computer always connect via the switch? For example, while playing swat 4, i would start a Lan server and my laptop would show the ip of the Lan server being 192.168.1.xxx witch is my wireless. But the IP for the switch is 10.10.10.xxx. How do i make sure people will connect via my switch and not through my wireless router? Thanks. |

I don't really understand what you are trying to do but will try to answer.
I assume the wireless network is your current network that has internet access? If this is the case make sure that the wireless connection is secured with a password that only you know. This will make sure that only people you want to have access to the wireless and internet can. When you set up your LAN party, make everyone plug into the switch you brought and also plug in the game server to the switch as well. Don't connect the switch to anything else, keep it independent of the rest of your network. This way, the wireless network is only available if you know the password, but the switch is for everyone. The only problem with this is that the switch does not have a built in DHCP server so you will have to give all your computers static IP addresses which could be a nuisance.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Sorry, i was in a hurry while writing my original post, i will try to be a little clearer. Ok, so i am trying to set up a lan within the computers. I think my wireless connectiong is conflicting with my switch. For example if i start a game it is under the IP 192.168.1.xxx (the wireless router), not 10.10.10.xxx witch is the switch. So basically im wondering how i can make sure the games are start with this switch and not the wireless connection. And also, im not to sure how i am to go about making a "network" within the hub in order to share files during the lan party. Is that a little more clearer? |

Glad you got it fixed on your own.
I was going to say the switch doesn't have a DHCP server built in.
