Default Setting up a Router on Windows Vista premium

Hi Has anyone heard of or have experienced problems with Windows Vista Premium when trying to set up a router ?? I bought one through tiscali (my ISP) and they sent a Thomson Speedtouch 585v6 router and USB adapter bundle (the latter being for the kids PC so they can access the internet etc.) I tried setting up the router software as directed and eventually keep getting a message window saying that the software has encountered a problem (general error code 3) because some files are either corrupted or missing and that the installation wizrd now needs to close. Contact your service provider. I contacted Tiscali and they don't provide support for Windows Vista ! Is it likely to be a problem with Vista ?

Thanks

Get on to Tiscali and say "Send me a Router that will work with Vista". or I'll end my contract with you as you are in breach of contract by not providing the correct equipment.
Did they even ask what OS you were running?
Never mind the lame duck excuses from them.

Default Setting up a Router on Windows Vista premium

I looked on the tiscali site and they use a place called the dsl shop so I looked at the site and chose the adsl 2 router/usb adapter bundle as it was cheaper. I have been looking on the Windows Vista Help page online and they reckon that the installation is due to the incompatibility between the software and Windows Vista and that you can get by altering the compatibilty setting by telling it to run using Windows XP SP2.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931361/

Will see what happens.

Default Setting up a Router on Windows Vista premium

I am still having problems installing my Router in so much that I can not get an internet connection with it. Even after configuring the modem for tiscali (Speedtouch 585v6), the software eventually tells me that I need to reboot in order to complete installation but then when I tell it to reboot it says that all data will be lost if I do !!!! There seems to be a problem with the software on this OS and the diagnosis wizard that is in Windows Vista shows the following : Problem Event name : APP CRASH
Application Name : STInstall. exe
Application version : 20.3.3028
Fault-module name : qt-mt322.dll

I have also downloaded the drivers for this modem as a zip file, unzipped it but am at a loss to know what to do further !!!! Yes I have posted a query to the manufacturers on the internet and so far they havent replied.....I could ring them but its a premium rate line.

Any further help/advice would be great. Thanks.

Yes I did download the zip file from that site but was wondering where to place it ? I have unzipped it and its a single file with the suffix 'bin'. Do I put it in the system folder in windows ??

Thanks again

Look for the C:\Program Files\Thompson\Speedtouch folder and put it there.
Try that and get back to us.

Default Setting up a Router on Windows Vista premium

Hi
Everyone - I am sending this through my wireless network !!! :D

I got the tech guys at the dsl shop to guide me through the configuration of my router - didnt need the CD that came with it !! All up and running now. Mind you, feeling a little content about also setting up the kids PC on the same wireless network, using the USB adapter I got for it - but I did use the supplied CD to configure it !

Just out of interest, my PC has got norton internet security 2007; will my kids PC need AV software even though it gets its signal through the router on my PC ?? Somebody said the router also has a firewall - is that true ?

Thanks again !!!

ANY router will work with ANY OS.

So long as the PC has a network port the OS is irrelevant as the router does not use drivers.

Just login to the router using an IP address in Internet Explorer rather than using their software.

The CD was probably just that DFR, a big "Read me" file.
