Hi, I'm looking to set up a VPN connection between my home win2003 server and work. (well so I can connect to it from my laptop wherever I have a wireless connection outside of my house e.g. in the next town.
I'm behind a router @ home. I know that certain ports have to be forwarded etc. and something about an external IP address. But that's just my router's external IP address isn't it? Any help will be appreciated! |

A little more information would be necessary.
In any case yes you need to forward your vpn ports on your firewall or allow connections from that port After that its as simple as setting up a new connection through the wizard and having it be a vpn connection. Now here is where it gets interesting. Is the vpn server at home or in the office if its in the office you need its external ip address or some name address to route your vpn to and the username and password to connect to that vpn. If its at home then you must set up your computer (or capable vpn device) to be a vpn server. |

The Win 2k3 server is located in my house and is part of my home network. I have a domain set up for all pcs. I know I have to open ports on the firewall, what ports would this be. I have a Netgear router.
I think when I've done this before, it's just gone to the router configuration page from outside my network. |

port 1723 is one of the most common. You need to point your Domain name to point to the vpn server computers external IP address.

Ok, just attempted to set up VPN on Win2k3 and get the following error message.
' Less than two network interfaces were detected on this machine. For standard VPN server configuration at least two network interfaces need to be installed. Please use the custom configuration path instead'. Does this mean I need two NIC's? Thanks. Jon |
