From 479 Kilo to 1909 kilo is a big jump but still seems slow for your stats. That speed would be good for fixed 2mb BB but with your stats you should get 2 times that on adsl max. Another thing that might work is tweaking your MTU. I gained 0.6mb by doing this on my system but your result might be different. Follow this tut http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/MTU2.htm to find your optimum MTU. Then follow this one http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/tweak2.htm
I know it sounds like alot of work but any little thing could help.
You might wanna post a hijackthis log in the virus section. (i cant help you with that)
Adding some more ram should sort out your virtual memory problem. Depending on what your doing i suppose.

thank you will have a look at these tomorrow. i have put a hijackthis log in the virus section. everything is fine there. even before i did all the things you said with speed test and that i did a test this morning and was getting just under 2 mg. i have been talking to talktalk a lot because at first i was never getting any more than half then when i kicked up a bit of a fuss it started going up to just under 2mg.im paying for my talktalk as well even thou i signed up for free BB. when i phoned an asked about this they said it is free but not where i live.LOL. anyway will post how tweaking my MTU has changed things.cheers.

I just noticed something about your stats. your syncing at 2MB. With your line attenuation thats low. But not for 2mb BB. ADSL max is up to 8mb but fixed 2mb BB is 2mb. you should get atleast 4mb. my stats are almost the same as yours and i get 6.2mb.
You ran the test bypassing your ISP and still got 2mb. Looks to me that there either not providing you with the service they should be. Your on fixed 2mb BB, or there might be something wrong with one of your lines.
Plugging into the master phone socket will help to. Taking the face plate off and putting the phone wire directly into the master socket. I do this myself.
Its hard to say from my end. see what talktalk tec say about it lol god help u!

just to let you no that ive been on to talktalk today they said i was on a fixed 2mg deal because there had been some sort of error when i signed up for 8mg one. so they said i would have better speed in 10 to 15 days and it will be free like it should have been. they are also letting me of with this months payment. will let you no how speeds go . Thanks for all your help.

So you were on 2mb fixed BB, hmm. The worst part about all this is, they were only providing you 1 fourth of 2mb BB. Makes one wonder what the 8mb service will be like.
They should of switched you over as soon as the problem was found. So you might be on your 10 day training period.
remember those stats, keep an eye on this part Bandwidth Down/Up(kbps)2272/288.
On the bright side of things, your pc is virus free
