no. its the wireless USB, i dropped it quite a few times(my bro threw it at me) and it was for free off my cousin he used it for a couple of years. I have no problems with my laptops in my room, i get a perfect connection with 54mbps and excellent signal strength. The Wireless PCI Card meant to be new from my local PC shop, i dont have a idea why is it not working well, it happens on a PC downstairs just 2 walls aways from the router?

So the same PCI adapter is bad on another machine that is pretty close to the router?

What brand is this dodgy PCI adapter?

Well, I'd say that now it sounds like the wireless card is just rubbish. You should bring it back and try to get another one.
But before you do that, what security settings does your network have? WEP, WPA? Can your wireless card actually handle them?

hmmn... as far as i know its Realtek RTL8185 but its unbranded on the box, i've tried different drivers and different security settings unsecure to WPA2 ... its starting to really bugg me, i'm constantly laggin on games and disconnecting from game servers ... i'll have to buy a new "branded" wireless adapter then, preferably netgear since my router is netgear ? or will different brand work as good ?

So the same PCI adapter is bad on another machine that is pretty close to the router? : Yes

The brand shouldn't matter as far as I know.

Brand isn't important, your netgear should work with any kind of card... In this case it is just the card that is bad. It may just be faulty, cannot say. Just bring it back and tell them you cannot connect to your network with it.

I totally disagree, not all brands are equal.

Take cars as an example, they are all modes of transport, some better than others.

Unbranded network equipment tends to have poor software, and as a result a poor experience.

Sorry, I was referring to what brand you buy compared to what brand your router is. They don't need to match.
