| hi all, first post. i have networked a pc to my router and had to connect the router to dsl modem. i have got 8mb virgin media broadband (for those in other countires thats fibre optic best internet here probably). i get quite low download speed. Now i know what your thinking, he just slow connction, i dont think so though. i cannot access my router (192.168.1.1) through the pc??. it does not come up. it is using the router as a way through to the modem not as a network. how do i fix this? i feel it will benefit my speed aswell. here are some helpfull pics: Last edited by Dave Hybrid : 02-07-2007 at 08:52 PM. |

| The purple lead from the modem does not plug into one of the 4 ports like the PC does. It plugs into it's own socket normally labeled 'Internet Connection' but looking at your router it is a modem/router. You need a CABLE router that does not have a ADSL modem built in.

| I'm not sure how you got it working but it definitely isn't right. You are using completely the wrong equipment. Get a cable router and it should sort itself out. When you say you are getting low speeds how are you testing the speed?

| So you're on 2MB then? What are you using for downloading. Torrents?

| Are you sure they don't limit speeds? Regardless you wont get full speed 100% of the time, broadband just doesn't work like that. If the speed-test says 2mb your getting 2mb, speed after that is governed by who and what you are downloading from.
