I recently upgraded to a Dell Latitude 630 from my 3 year old Toshiba Satellite. I have had the mobile Broadband Card for the Toshiba and it always worked well and STILL does work well with that computer.
Every time I insert the card into my Dell it locks it up, sometimes immidiately but most times after I ask it to connect. AT LEAST 9 out of 10 trys this happens. I then have to cold start the computer by holding the power button for 5 seconds because NOTHING works on it not even Windows task manager. Then restart the computer and after booting up try again....VERY frustrating! There is nothing wrong with the card that I know of because each time I can insert it into the Toshiba and it works great! The Dell has XP Pro and Office 2007 with Zone Alarm Internet Scecurity. The Toshiba has XP Home and Office 2003 with Zone Alarm Internet Security. What is the conflict and how do I fix it? |

The last quick reply I sent was from a thread in the Dell user forum which may or may not help you. Dell offers a troubleshooting step by step that may be of more help:
http://search.dell.com/searchcom_red...7-780fb48f9877 I have been having the same trouble with the same Sprint PC card and a 2 year old Dell Inspiron 6000. The card works fine in my 5 year old Inspiron 2650. I just stumbled across this troubleshooter so I have not tried it yet. I am working from a different PC now and will step thru it when I get back in front of my newer Inspiron. However, I am not holding out a lot of hope, apparently Dell has had numerous issues with their PCMCIA slots ranging from ribbon cables not staying plugged in, to multiple device instances appearing in the hardware manager causing incompatibility with ANY, virtual USB, wireless broadband modems. Regardless whether the troubleshooter works or not, it's probably just a matter of time before Murphy rears his head again so I am ordering a Sierra Wireless 595U (standard USB2) card from Sprint as, thank goodness, I am eligible for a time-in-contract device upgrade discount (same price for a new modem as I would get with a brand new 2 year service contract). Good luck in your troubleshooting! |
