Default Starting a Wired connection?

Hi, I want to make a wired network. I got an ethernet cable set it up and loaded up the AOL installation disc. I clicked the set up modem router part and waited for it to load.

It got to the checking that everything is okay part and won't get any further. Is there something else I should be doing?

Help me please I think I'm going insane.

I'm in UK too. I got it sorted, for some reason my ethernet port on my Mobo isn't working, so I bought network card today and should up and running soon.

What type of motherboard do you have? maybe you don't have the chipset drivers installed, that could cause the Ethernet port not to work!
