i've recently bought a laptop and have just done the speedtest in a previous thread, its reading a download speed of 1080kb/s but i'm supposed to be on 8mb b/band

You times kb/s by 8 to get you mb speed.

So 1080kb/s x 8 = 8.6mb.

hmm i belive you mean divide your kb/s by 1024 to get mbs

Here's another test i've just done.
If this is 8mb, i think i'll go back to my old 2mb as it as a darn site quicker!

Ok my calculation was wrong i forget the formula.

You are on less than 1mb.

Thing is on ADSL if you read your contract it is UPTO 8mb.

Meaning if you are far from an exchange you get less.

Do you live in the sticks?

no, i live in a small city called Lancaster.
I've just done a speedtest on site recommended to me by my ISP and it reads 7.4mb
yet when i do one on speedtest.net it reads at less than 1meg

LOL Cew27.. Speed Test tells you how far the Server is from your location. The distance doesn't make too much difference in speed unless you are more then 10,000ft (just shy of 2 miles) from your telecom hub.
If you are supposed to be getting 2megabits download then you should call your internet provider or phone company. You are way under. Especially if you had a faster connect before... They can check your line remotely and decide if a tech should pay you a visit... Just went through that with qwest.. They are terrible by the way.
