So I have two routers one is wireless, one is bog standard LAN. The setup looks like this:

internet
¦
¦
wireless router
¦
¦
¦<----lan connection
¦
¦
remote wired router
¦ ¦ ¦
¦ ¦ ¦
¦ ¦ ¦
Lan access in remote location

So the wireless router is "dominant", it passes the internet connection to the remote router which splits the connection and everything works fine. When I type 192.168.0.1 on a browser in the remote location (or anywhere else on the network) it connects to the dominant wireless router.

The problem occurs when the routers become "confused" as to which one is providing the internet connection. When this happens, the internet cannot be accessed from anywhere on the network, and typing 192.168.0.1 brings one to the slave router.

How can I make it so that the wireless router is always dominant?

you need to change the IP address of the second router to 192.168.0.2 for example or it will always resolve to one of the routers hence getting confused.

You also need to disable DHCP on the slave router as computers and printers should pick up an IP address from the Master router. That's my setup on two netgear dg834gt's.
