Running a Dell laptop on Vista, using Tiscali wireless broadband via an Zxyel router and cannot log on the internet.

When i double click internet explorer it normally connects straight to a website - instead it now comes up with this message -

DSL connection successful - your router has establish a DSL connectiob to your local exchange. To log on to the internet, the router needs the internet user name and password provided by your ISP.

It should not even ask for this as have been using it for months when it connects straight to a website. Have entered my details anyway and still it doesnt work.

Have rung tiscali and all they could advise was to unplug everything and re-connect and try again. They have tested the line.
On the router the WLAN light is flashing green occasionally and the DSL green light is flashing more - tiscali said the DSL light needs to be on green permanently and that there is a problem with the connection???

On the PC the Zxyel router says its currently connected with excellent signal strength, but it looks like its the router connection to the internet that is the problem (and I am no expert)

I can only access the internet here at work so really really appreciate any suggestions during the day today.

Dave - if you are reading, its possible I may have had this problem once before (cannot remember) - any chance you can look over past threads (from a while ago) and try and see if I posted in the past about it????

help much appreciated, thanks

Log into the router via IE using the router IP and set the username and password.

It could be the router is dropping it's settings so a reset on the back and a full input of all the settings fresh may work also.

thanks Dave - um, I am not really computer literate, so how do I log into the router via IE and what is the router IP? There is a reset button on the back of the router?

First login and check the settings, your router IP will be listed in your router manual.

hi, me again!
got into the router admin, and within the connection set up it is showing the ISP username and password that I believe to be correct. and shows the same in the WAN info.
Not sure what else or other settings I can check but problem is still happening.
When I run the diagnose/connection test -the PPP/PPPoE Server Connection fails and the Ping default gateway fails as well...

any more suggestions to get internet working??? thanks

It sounds like a problem with your ISP...

There were some other replied yesterday that got lost when we had problems upgrading the forum software but they only really said to check the settings.

Glad you got if fixed.

Always worth retyping passwords etc in similar circumstances.
