Anyone here on the new Virgin 50Mb? If so how do you rate it? Im an engineer for Virgin and im yet to install one, maybe because of the stupid price tag attached to it.

Well if 10mb is anything to go by I wont be upgrading, until it gets passed down the price table to the same I'm paying now, so effectively a free upgrade. Then I might as well. Mainly because on 10MB I often do not get full whack, that and the bandwidth restrictions so i get a 75% clamp ( there are 9 PCs here + phones/PDAs ), defeats the point of having high speed in the first place.

I don't like the capping Virgin have introduced seemed to be far better in the Telewest days. I have the 20Mb at the moment im quite impressed with it seem to reach most of my potential majority of the time, although your speed can be affected by your signal levels coming in to the property.

Alot of areas have it running in -db figures which can affect the service alot

I am moaning but It pisses all over DSL, 2MB max where I live. Nothings perfect so I can live with occasional speed/technical issues. Just the capping seems a joke, I mean I am paying for the service. I'd even happily pay more to have more bandwidth or uncapped, but they won't let me, which is bizarre.

I use the 20mb connection and most of the time (not peak times) I get decent speeds and pretty much max out .... see below speed test just done.

I dont like the "Traffic Management" restrictions much either (who would), but I guess until they invest enough money in the infrastructure, to cope with peak time traffic, we will be stuck with it.

I understood that the 50mb service was to be run on it's own dedicated servers, but I was told by Customer Service that Traffic Management will still apply to 50mb ...... this will stop me from upgrading. It seems kind of daft to me .... if someone pays for a 50mb service, it's pretty obvious they want to download stuff, so capping it is like buying a Porsche and then fitting a governor to it, to slow it down !!

A perfect analogy phil, well put.

Offering superfast broadband then penalizing people who use it.

I too have the 20MB connection and am happy with it, I myself have no need for a 50Gb connection (or the money!) I have 3 comps running from the current network and 20Mb is more than enough to keep the traffic flowing.

I totally agree on that statement here, The last time I checked I think the highest I would attain down the line is just over 1Mb.

Yeah, I dislike DSL that bad that when I move out soon I will probably turn a house down if it has no cable service.

@ Smitherz

Any idea what the reduced speeds are, on 50mb, when Traffic Damagement kicks in ?

Also, if you know, what are the download bandwidth limits on 10MB, 20MB and 50MB per month?
