Default virgin media speed upgrade

ive got virgin media and they've upgraded all there X customers on 4mb to 10mb but when i do a speed test on a website it says less than 6mb and i know that it wikll never be 10mb because of the traffic on the internet and all that so does anyone know why im not getting a higher speed???

Default virgin media speed upgrade

Best starting place would be to call Virgin and confirm what speed you are on.

I know for a fact they throttle speed if you download a lot.

Also speed test sites can be a bit hit and miss .... if you haven't already, try this one

Is possibile that some of the servers where you try the speed test don't have a bigger upload line, and they are limited to 6 Mb upload speed. Try speed test at 2 (or more) different sites at the same moment and sum the results.

Good pont, however I can confirm that the UK servers work fine with my 20mb connection.

Type http://homepage.ntlworld.com/testyourspeed In your address bar this gives a true reading,Also download Dan elwells speed test its free and very good. If you download tooooooo much,,,, ntl/virgin fair use policy,,, restricts your speed to a quarter between the hours of 5-9 pm,,,,,,so 4 megs would be 1 meg,,,,,and so on so use a scheduler for those dodgy downloads
