got my router and new netbook. I don't have wifi on my desktop pc so installed the computer to the router as a wired connection succesfully. trying to then add my Toshiba nb100 netbook that is already wifi enabled but with the virgin software i get the error message unsuuported wireless adaptor: then says your wireless adaptor does not support WPA . Please use a wireless adaptor that supports WPA.

Surely a brand new toshiba netbook would have an up to date wireless adaptor?

Answers on a postcard on preferably if your feeling extreeemely charitable IM me on semcallister@live.co.uk

Why even use the software on the laptop? Set up the router, tell Windows on the laptop to connect to it, enter the WPA password, done.

Well I assume the router's already set up, so just click the wireless network icon in the start bar (looks like two screens next to each other), and from there it should pop up networks it's found in range, try connecting to your router from there.

I've clicked on connect to wireless connection and the following message appears:

windows cannot configure this wireless connection. If you have enabled another programme to manage this wireless connection use this software.

If you want windows to configue this wireless connection start the wireless zero configuration service.

you just need to enable windows zero configuration service then. providing your on xp -

Click, Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.
Click the tab at the bottom that says extended, then scroll down to the bottom.

double click the entry called windows zero configuration.

set the startup type to automatic. then click stop (if you can) then start. then hit okay and close the services box.

when you click the button on the taskbar, itll show your available networks.

does my desktop pc that i originally have my isp installed on etc need to go wireless and I need to buy a wifi adaptor. I linked up the router and set up the account and password successfully for the connection. I think possibly the problem is with the virgin software (how do i check if the brand new netbook i purchased has a built in wifi adaptor that you can get from the Pound Store ????

if you have a wireless router, you dont need to install the virgin software, just connect the router with either a ethernet cable or a wireless, and it should work, the router connected to the modem will do the rest.
