I was thinking when I was starbucks that I could connect to my router and I could set up a VPN. I did more research and was told a vpn is more secure than open network. I found that companys are previding this service so you can login through a open network and keep your info safe. I later looked more for info for my router and found that netgear charges for the software about 50 bucks for a one person licence and one for a 5 person for 119 dollars.
I was thinking if you can give me some reading stuff with this I also have a tower with red hat linux and I can possable get windows 2000 on it. I basicly want to make it so I can access my internet from anywhere and get a secure connection. I need options. |

Hamachi?
OpenVPN for a full on VPN: Set the old tower up with Smoothwall, then install the Zerina OpenVPN mod. I use Smoothwall. Full access to my network as if I was connected locally. If your interested say and I'll explain more. Totally free. Edit: Can your router run DD-WRT? Theres a mod that lets you run OpenVPN on DD-WRT.

Did you have a read around the Smoothwall website? I made a post once before about it here: http://www.computer-juice.com/forums...express-17094/
The computer you talk of would be perfect for running it on. You may also want to look at Clark Connect, that I believe has VPN functions. And a web server, email server etc. Great for what you talk of.

Yes you can connect over WIFI. You will have to explain more what you mean though.
Yes, you can connect from Starbucks. You can connect from anywhere that lets you have internet access. You're going to have to do some reading yourself. Basically you need to install Smoothwall onto the machine, by downloading, burning and booting from a disk. That will install Smoothwall. Smoothwall is it's own OS, so you don't need to worry about Red Hat, that will be automatically removed. Then you can read the manuals by registering on the Smoothwall site, and looking at the forums. Once again: http://www.computer-juice.com/forums...express-17094/
