Hi, I have been tying to install a Belkin wireless network adapter to a desktop computer. I have had many problems installing it & it shows as working in the properties box but it isn't. I keep getting a PCI communication device trying to install now but I dont know what this is or means? It shows that driver needs updating code28 in properties but if I try to instll driver it cant find it anywhere. Is this possibly what is stopping the Belkin thing from working. I know nothing about computers so please speak slowly & clearly!! Thanks, Caz.

Drivers are bits of software that help the hardware and Windows talk together.

Easiest thing to do is run the Install/Setup program on the CD that came with the network card, that will install all the necessary drivers.

Oh I see, PCI communication adapter is probably the 56k modem, if you do not use a 56k modem just disable this item in device manager and it won't bother you again. It is not related to any wireless issues you may be having.

I dont know anything about a modem (I am useless at technial stuff!!) I just wondered if it was that causing the Belkin thing not to work. I was also at one point getting a message that it was trying to install a USB2.0 WLAN but that is not listed in the properties box now. Could that be the problem?

Same message applies.

That message means your 56k modem is not installed, disable it in device manager and it will go away. It is not related to any wifi issues you are having.

What is the problem with your wifi connection anyway?

OK will do that. My adapter is showing as working properly in the properties box but there are no networks listed. I have tried changing the channel on my BT home hub as Belkin advised but still no good. My laptop works fine off the home hub & it is nothing to do with the range. Any ideas?

Have you checked the security settings are correct, if you have security on your wireless network, you will need to allow the computer to connect.

Sorry but I wouldnt know how to check security settings. Should there not be networks listed anyway even if I couldnt connect to them? The available networks box is completly blank?

It depends on the settings, however I'm not too sure about it, I'll send Serverguy a PM and ask him to take a look at this thread, he might have more of an idea how to check the settings, or maybe even something else completely.
