Default When isn't a Wireless Router Wireless ???

Hi

I have a Speedtouch 585 wireless router and it lost its internet connection today. The power light, ethernet light,WLAN light and DSL light were all green but internet light was red. So I rang my ISP - Tiscali - and after half hour spoke to a chap who got me to reset my router. Yep ! I have internet connection now BUT the WLAN light on the router is red and now all the others are green. A bit suprisingly too is the fact that I can get a wireless connection from my laptop but it says the connection is not secure anylonger.
Why might the WLAN light now be red and surely if the connection is not secure then it means anyone can bounce a signal off my router ?? Also, does it means that the routers firewall is no longer working properly ?

many thanks again in advance !

Dean

It may be that the factory setting is for the WLAN to have no WPA / WEP so when you reset it no WPA or WEP protection is established. Try typing the routers address, usully 192.168.1.254 into your browser and looking through the settings you'll soon see if there's something disabled.

Yup ! Quite simpe when you know what you are looking for ! Went to Speedtouch website, clicked on network last night before I contacted this forum and saw that the security was disabled and thought nothing more of it !!!! Don't know how it had become disabled, mind you, but it is now secure and everything appears to be back to how it was.

appreciate your help !

Q: When isn't a wireless router wireless?
A. In the event of spilled coffee. Then it's definitely wired.
