My onboard nic is failing and I need to buy a nic card. I have a dlink wbr-2310 wireless g router, and am wondering if the Intel PWLA8391GT 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI PRO/1000 GT Desktop Adapter card will work with this router and make a difference or will it be dependent on my isp's speed? I've read tons of reviews on this card but just about every one of them talk about using it in a server environment. I don't do gaming so is this overkill or a good move for future upgrades?

amd athlon 3000+

Way overkill. g can only do 54Mbit/s.

Thank you.
I assume I could still use it until I upgrade the router, but it will be limited to 54mbps, correct?

100 is more than your ISP so there is no point in 1000 unless you are sharing massive files to other PCs on a network.

I understand now, thank you. I guess the main reason I wanted this one is because I read you can change the mac address if needed. Thats not the only reason, but was a good one for me. I also thought that when I go to a higher tier with a new isp, it would give better performance.

I'd always choose a Gig NIC over a 10/100 one just because it is so much faster, especially if you want to transfer files over a network, now or in the future.

There also very little more money.

But yes, for just internet, even 10Mbps is fine.
