| I am wanting to set up my 1st home network and i'm looking for advice My current set up is that i have 2 telephone sockets - one that has an USB ADSL modem connected then connected to my desktop pc(Thomson Speedtouch 300 with Pipex braodband) the other socket with an ADSL filter connected with one output to my home phone I am happy with my pc being connected this way but i want to be able to access my broadband from my playstation 3 and a home media server music player(Hermstedt Hifidelio Pro) plus maybe a laptop in the future I've heard a lot about wired/homeplug networks - any thoughts If i went down this route what would i need and any suggestions on products Also theres a bit of debate about wether you can plu these into mains extension cables How would a wireless network compare Ideally i want ease of set-up,minimal mess and adequate speed for online gaming Any advice greatly appreciated |

| I would go for a Netgear MIMO wireless modem router or similar, which gives you 4 LAN wired sockets and also WiFi access. You can then ditch the USB modem. You will need a LAN/Ethernet socket on your desktop to connect directly to the modem, plus another mains socket lol. Also you need some sort of WiFi card in each additional peripheral, all new laptops have WiFi. If you have thick stone walls, then get homeplug too. Your modem router will have extra LAN sockets to plug an adapter into, but you need yet another power socket at the modem end and another at the peripheral end.

| Yep ... as Mike0001 says .... definitely a Wireleess Modem/Router is the way to go.
