ok, long story...long lol

the girlfriends mum has decided to buy a new computer, not sure what specs apart from vista OS

they bought the belkin mimo wireless set ill try and leave a link to the products at the end of this thread

the wireless router is upstairs on the girlfriends computer, shes plugged in via a ethernet cable and everything is fine, however she can only access the internet by loading up her AOL software which i thought routers wouldnt need but thats a side query

the main problem is her mums computer which is downstairs is using a usb wireless gizmo to be precise the model number is 'belkin f5d9050', cant believe i remembered that

now............ive used the ISP 192.168.2.1 and that gets me access to some belkin site (as such)

i go through the set up process and it even gives me the AOL information from upstairs such as AOL sign in name and password so the wireless gizmo is working and contacting the router

however when the process is finished theres still now connection and aol can recognise any connection deivces. now they internet light on the router upstairs remains red which means connection

but then im running through the 192.168.2.1 process it will turn green untill the process is over and it has rebooted (the com doesnt reboot its just part of the process if thats clear)

where am i going wrong, when i check on the taskbar connection properties pam-pc (her mums) is connection the the router and then there is a red X between the router and the internet

being someone who doesnt use wireless i wanted to melt, could you guys enlighten me

also, i had to install a vista driver for the pams computer which didnt do anything and there was no software installed on the upstairs computer where the router is. my girlfriend said she put the CD in installed it and its all gone, when i put the CD i dont see any installing software. (this is where i get stressy because you have to retrace everyones steps)

Have you configured it as in this?

http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/AOLsetup.htm

The 192.168.2.1 is just the router's own web server. When anyone makes a connection to the router, the router itself "dials up" AOL so the AOL software should be irrelevant if all is configured correctly. Clearly not the case with the direct LAN connection, so concentrate on getting that one right first.
