I have just got a new laptop, Advent 5401 with windows Vista.
I have been trying to connect to my Belkin N Wireless Router which our other laptop is connected to. The other laptop is also an Advent (5301) and also runs Vista. This has no problem connecting wirelessly to the router. When I try and connect my new laptop i can see the network i want and i know the pass key to enter it but everytime it just says 'wireless authentication failed because of a timeout My network adapter is a Intel(R) Pro/Wireless 3945ABG which is different from the adapter on the other laptop so I am wondering if this is the problem. I have checked that it has the latest driver though. I have been trying for 2days without results. It is fine if i connect with the ethernet cable but I want to go wireless. I have been looking at other forums and it seems to be a problem with no easy fix. Please help i am really clueless as to what to do.' |

You know, I have an XP lappy and have no problems, but my 2 daughters just got new ones with Vista and they are constantly being locked out of the network until the router is unplugged and restarted, Really annoying!
The network comes up as "unknown network" with limited connectivity. Right bummer!

I have the same problem. The router looks fairly old though, I've moved into a new house and when I plug the router into my laptop its fine. At first when my mate tried it, it would pick up the network then he reset the router and it picked it up. Now it picks the network up and it has a strong signal, yet everytime I try to connect I enter the passphrase and then it says Wireless Authentication fails because of a timeout. What do I have to do to get it to successfully connect?
